An important Web3 gaming studio called Argus has secured $10 million in seed funding from cryptocurrency investment company Haun Ventures. In addition, major individual investors such former Coinbase CTO Balaji Srinivasan, Robot Ventures, Anagram, Dispersion Capital, and Alchemy participated in the investment round.
The World Engine, a blockchain-gaming software developer kit (SDK) that enables creators to create their own Web3 game environments, has been unveiled by Argus in conjunction with the investment announcement. This cutting-edge SDK offers programmers a platform to design and foster ground-breaking gaming experiences for the Web3 environment.
The CEO of Argus, Scott Sunarto, reaffirmed the firm’s dedication to building a solid blockchain infrastructure for new Web3 games as well as to enabling developers to pursue their creative passions. He compared the current status of cryptocurrency gaming to the early days of computer games, highlighting the significance of pushing limits and fostering innovation.
“Computer games in the 1980s and ‘90s were building their engine to build their own game … I think we’re at a very similar stage in crypto gaming right now, where if you really want to build great applications for great content, you really need to have this ability to push the envelope yourself.”
Argus plans to use the recently obtained funds to strengthen its studio and tooling infrastructure as well as to increase its workforce size. The company wants to improve its capabilities and further its purpose of fostering growth within the Web3 gaming sector, thus it is expanding up its resources in an effort to do so.
The Haun Ventures investor who led the investment round, Breck Stodghill, lauded Scott Sunarto’s creative approach and called him a “missionary” in the Web3 gaming industry. Stodghill emphasized, “He believes first and foremost that the power of games to unite folks and the power of crypto is something that should be put together if we can figure out some of the infrastructure problems,” said Stodghill. “If we can create fertile ground for game developers to have crypto as a tool, there’ll be some really interesting new games that emerge – and it’ll end up being super positive for the people who play games.”
