Resorts World Bet will soon leave New York’s online sports betting market, becoming the third operator to exit the state since 2023. The company informed customers that it will stop taking wagers on June 16 and fully shut down its mobile operations by June 30. Users must withdraw any remaining funds by June 22.
Good to know
The New York Gaming Commission has been notified about the exit and has not raised any objections. Resorts World Bet has struggled since its March 2022 launch, posting the lowest numbers in the market. As of the most recent monthly report, the sportsbook had handled $263.3 million in total bets and generated $17.6 million in lifetime revenue—ranking last among all operators in the state.
In 2025 so far, Resorts World Bet has brought in $3.2 million in revenue, only slightly ahead of Bally Bet. In contrast, top players FanDuel and DraftKings combined for $192 million in May alone, while newer entry Fanatics Sportsbook, which joined the New York market in February 2024, made $18 million last month.
Even though Resorts World Bet is pulling out, the company will continue to run its two land-based casinos in New York—one in New York City and the other in the Catskills.
New York’s high 51% tax on online sportsbooks has made profitability difficult for smaller operators, though the state remains attractive due to volume. Since the repeal of PASPA in 2018, New York has handled nearly $70 billion in sports wagers, more than any other state.
With this exit, a license may become available. The state aims to keep nine operators live, which could create an opportunity for another brand to enter. Bet365, Hard Rock Bet, and Underdog could be potential contenders to fill the gap. Currently, BetMGM, Caesars, and BetRivers remain active alongside the market leaders.
Resorts World Bet joins PointsBet and WynnBET as operators that have pulled out. PointsBet left after selling its U.S. operations to Fanatics Sportsbook in mid-2023. WynnBET’s New York license was sold to PENN Entertainment for $25 million, which later launched ESPN BET in September 2024.
