New Jersey gaming revenue still grew in May, but sports betting did not carry the month. The stronger story came from online casinos, which helped lift total gaming revenue even as sportsbook handle and revenue both fell from last year.

New Jersey online casino revenue climbed to $276.3 million in May, according to the New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement. That total beat May 2025 by 11.9% and lifted 2026 online casino revenue past $1.3 billion through five months.
That growth helped total New Jersey gaming revenue reach $627.1 million for the month, up 2% from the same month last year. Year to date, total gaming revenue reached $2.9 billion, a 7.2% increase from the first five months of 2025.
Sports betting told a different story. New Jersey online and retail sportsbooks handled $912.9 million in May, down 9.6% from $1.01 billion a year earlier. The market also stayed below the $1 billion handle level for a fourth straight month after last crossing it in January. Compared with April, betting volume fell 2%.
Gross sports betting revenue came in at $85.2 million, down 16.9% year over year. Even with that decline, sportsbooks kept a 9.3% hold in a month when the New York Knicks went 8-0 during their nearby NBA playoff run. Last May, New Jersey operators reached a double digit win rate.
Retail sportsbooks had a much harder month than online operators. Retail revenue fell from $4.5 million in May 2025 to $1.5 million in May 2026.
New Jersey online sportsbooks produced $83.7 million in May revenue, down 14.6% from last year. Still, the 2026 total for mobile operators reached $455.6 million through May, only 1% below the same point in 2025.
FanDuel remained the clear market leader with $34.5 million in May revenue and $181.6 million for 2026. Its May revenue fell 22% year over year, while year to date revenue sits 2.6% lower.
DraftKings ranked second with $21.7 million in May revenue and $117.6 million for the year. Its May total fell 23.4% from last year, and 2026 revenue through May declined 7%.
Fanatics Sportsbook took third place with $7.6 million, up 22.6% from May 2025. bet365 followed with $7 million and reached $33.2 million for the year, up 43% year over year.
BetMGM also improved, rising from $1.5 million last May to $6.1 million in May 2026. Its year to date revenue rose more than 20%. Caesars generated $1.8 million, just ahead of Hard Rock Bet at $1.6 million and theScore Bet at $1.4 million. theScore Bet revenue fell 71% from last year, when the PENN Entertainment brand still used ESPN.
No other online sportsbook reached $1 million in May revenue. Prime Sportsbook finished the month in the red.
New Jersey collected $18 million in sports betting taxes during May. Sports betting tax revenue reached nearly $95 million for 2026, while total gaming tax revenue moved close to $420 million through the first five months.
