Federal Police in Brazil uncovered an international crime ring accused of washing drug money through online betting and cryptocurrency platforms. The discovery came after months of investigation under Operation Narco Bet, which focused on how organized networks moved illegal profits through gambling systems and digital transactions.
Good to Know
Investigators said the network used shell companies, front operations, and online betting channels to disguise funds from drug trafficking. The money reportedly cycled through electronic gaming platforms and crypto wallets before being spent on high-end assets.
One key suspect, accountant Rodrigo Morgado, was identified as the “financial operator” of the group. Morgado, known publicly for promoting tax consultancy services, managed more than BRL 19 million (around USD 3.4 million) through various accounts. Court documents show that part of these funds went to influencer Buzeira, who was also detained for organizing fake raffles online.
According to investigators, Morgado coordinated large transfers and helped integrate drug profits into legitimate-looking betting and raffle operations promoted on social media. The strategy gave the appearance of legitimate business activity while concealing the true source of the funds.
Federal Police are now reviewing financial records and blockchain trails to track the flow of money between front companies and betting sites. Officials say the findings highlight growing concern among regulators about how digital gambling and unregulated crypto payments can be exploited for financial crime.
