The NCAA will begin monitoring betting activity tied to referees officiating championship events. Technology from Integrity Compliance 360 will track officials assigned to tournaments such as March Madness.
More than 200 referees scheduled to officiate men and women NCAA Tournament games will be entered into IC360 ProhiBet monitoring system. Platform checks betting account activity across participating sportsbooks and alerts operators if restricted individuals attempt to wager.
Good to Know
Referees remain prohibited from placing wagers on sports under NCAA integrity rules. ProhiBet works through anonymized identification verification, which allows sportsbooks to detect restricted bettors without sharing personal data directly.
System alerts the network if an official attempts to create or use a betting account. Monitoring spans multiple sportsbooks connected to IC360 integrity technology.
“Implementing ProhiBet is a major step in increasing integrity protections for college sports,” said Mark Hicks, NCAA managing director of enforcement. “This platform adds another layer to the NCAA robust integrity monitoring program as we work to keep competition integrity and student-athlete well-being paramount in a rapidly evolving sports betting environment.”
Sports betting growth across the United States has increased focus on integrity monitoring across leagues and tournaments. NCAA rules already prohibit betting for athletes, coaches, and staff members, and the same restrictions apply to officials working games.
ProhiBet relies on a secure encrypted network designed to block restricted participants from wagering. System also helps compliance teams detect potential rule violations earlier.
“The engagement with IC360 provides the NCAA with a robust, proactive, and confidential tool designed to meet the unique compliance challenges presented by the rapidly expanding legal sports betting market,” IC360 said. “By implementing ProhiBet, the NCAA is setting a new benchmark for protecting the fairness of its events and helping its officiating body adhere strictly to integrity policies.”
Integrity Compliance 360 already works with professional leagues and sports organizations on monitoring and compliance tools tied to wagering activity.
“We’re thrilled to welcome the NCAA to the ProhiBet network and are honored to help protect the integrity of these iconic Division I championships,” IC360 Co-CEO Scott Sadin said. “This collaboration sets a new industry benchmark and reinforces the importance of proactive deterrence and detection in keeping collegiate athletics fair.”
