Mississippi Reports $42.5M Sports Betting Handle in January

Share

The Mississippi Gaming Commission reports that $42.5 million in wagers were placed in Mississippi’s sports betting market in January. Compared to December’s total, this amount reflects a $12 million decrease. The state’s taxable revenue increased by about $5 million in spite of the reduction, which was a substantial recovery from the $1 million loss in December.

Coastal Region Dominates Wagers

The Coastal region remained the biggest contributor to Mississippi’s betting handle, accounting for $29.3 million in wagers. The Central region followed with $8 million, while the Northern region brought in $5.2 million.

Parlay betting was particularly popular in the Northern region, where players placed $1.9 million in bets on parlay cards. Similarly, Central Mississippi bettors wagered $4 million on parlays and $2 million on football. However, football was the top choice for Coastal region bettors, who placed $15.7 million in football wagers—nearly half of the region’s total handle.

While the total handle declined, Mississippi’s taxable revenue rebounded to nearly $5 million, bouncing back from a loss the previous month. With football and parlay bets continuing to drive engagement, the state’s sports betting industry remains strong despite seasonal fluctuations.
