To manage the exclusive distribution of worldwide media rights for CAF’s events, the Confédération Africaine de Football (CAF) has strategically collaborated with global sports, events, and representation organization IMG. With the exception of some regions, Sub-Saharan Africa, and the MENA region, the comprehensive agreement covers more than 85 nations.
IMG will manage the broadcast agreements for the next two editions of the much awaited Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), the TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations Côte d’Ivoire 2023 and the CAF Africa Cup of Nations Morocco 2025, under the terms of the agreement. IMG will also oversee the media rights for the qualifying rounds of the events.
The cooperation goes beyond the AFCON to include a number of notable competitions, including the Futsal Africa Cup of Nations 2024, the TotalEnergies CAF Confederation Cup 2023/24, the TotalEnergies CAF Champions League for men and women, the TotalEnergies CAF Africa Women Cup of Nations 2024, and the TotalEnergies CAF African Nations Championship.
The cooperation was welcomed by Robyn Cox, Vice President and Managing Director of IMG’s media division in Africa, who said, “The TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations is the biggest event on the African Continent and one of football’s most watched competitions.” Cox emphasized IMG’s dedication to broadening the worldwide audience for CAF games, maximizing the value of media rights, and improving the spectator experience in general.
This deal strengthens IMG’s current arrangement with CAF, under which the business acts as the federation’s worldwide sponsorship agent through 2025. Remarkably, IMG just signed a contract with Puma to provide the official match ball for competitions run by CAF. IMG assists CAF in several ways, including media rights distribution, by providing data analysis, marketing intelligence, and consulting services that help develop the federation’s new commercial sponsorship plan.
The IMG alliance appears to be a crucial step in optimizing the potential of CAF events on the world stage as CAF strives for more global awareness and participation.
