Flashscore, the world’s most popular live scores app, has rolled out its much-anticipated Follow Player feature, giving fans real-time updates on their favorite footballers. With over 100 million monthly users, the launch is being billed as Flashscore’s “flagship app enhancement of 2025.”
Good to know
Fans can now select up to 100 players to track in the same way they follow teams. Notifications include whether a player is in the starting lineup, goals scored, substitutions, red cards, and post-match ratings. Flashscore has already confirmed that future updates will add assists, yellow cards, missed penalties, and transfer alerts.
The expansion doesn’t stop at football. Basketball and hockey players will also be included later this year, giving fans even more flexibility.
Alongside notifications, the app now provides player-centric stats like expected goals (xG), passing accuracy, and duels won. These additions deepen the analytical experience for users who want more than just scorelines.
Flashscore’s database covers nearly 590,000 players, and in the first month alone, 350,000 users selected at least one player to follow—averaging six players each, or about 2 million favorites overall.
Globally, Cristiano Ronaldo tops the chart as the most-followed player, edging Lionel Messi. Rising star Lamine Yamal ranks third, followed by Kylian Mbappe. Neymar, Vinicius Jr, Robert Lewandowski, and Jude Bellingham also feature in the global top 10.
In the UK, the rankings mirror global trends, with Mo Salah in fifth and Chelsea’s Cole Palmer in sixth. New Liverpool signing Alexander Isak is seventh, followed by Joao Pedro and Florian Wirtz.
The announcement comes ahead of the Legends Charity Game in Lisbon, where Flashscore is serving as official strategic partner. The match, organized by Sport Global at Sporting’s Estádio José Alvalade, will feature stars such as Luis Figo, Kaka, and Carles Puyol. The event aims to raise €1 million for charities and also acts as a curtain-raiser for the SBC Summit iGaming conference.
, explained the thinking behind the release:
“This is our flagship app enhancement of the year. Fandom is evolving and we’re seeing a significant shift from fans following only their favourite teams to a deeper interest in individual players. Our community has been asking for this feature for some time but we wanted to launch it at the right moment, when we had the strongest player data on the market and a clear understanding of what fans expect. That’s why we focused on delivering fast, non-intrusive notifications during live matches, without cluttering their feed.
“We also know fans crave real insights, so we’re already working on adding more meaningful player data – from pre-match previews and live statistics to post-match ratings – giving them a richer understanding of performance. With Follow Player, fans can finally track their football heroes in real time, and this is just the beginning. We’ll be expanding to basketball and hockey later this year, alongside more notification types and new ways to explore upcoming fixtures.”
