FanDuel has added a paid injury-protection option for NBA playoff player props. The product, called BetProtect+, lets users protect eligible pregame bets across the full game for an added 3% fee.
Good to Know
FanDuel is selling extra protection during the NBA Playoffs, and the target is clear: player prop bettors worried about in-game injuries. Users can switch on BetProtect+ before placing eligible wagers, then pay an added 3% on top of the stake. Bonus bets can fund the wager itself, but not that fee.
The offer only covers full-game player props placed before tipoff. If a protected player leaves and does not return because of injury, FanDuel either refunds the stake on a straight bet or removes that leg from a parlay and reprices the rest. Rewards tokens such as profit boosts can still be used with eligible bets.
Limits are tight. Live bets are not covered, although FanDuel has said it is working on that. Coverage also does not apply when a player gets ejected, fouls out, lands in foul trouble, gets benched, or leaves and later comes back. Mixed parlays with non-NBA legs are out as well.
FanDuel first rolled out Bet Protect ahead of the NFL season in September. Jon Sadow, product vice president for sportsbook, said:
“The challenge is that even with the most well-planned bet, the most comprehensive research, the best hunch – it can all get squashed by an unexpected injury. We want to allow our customers to regain that loss of control.”
