Boomer’s Sportsbook is now open at Ellis Island Casino in Las Vegas, bringing a new local-focused betting option to Nevada’s gaming scene. The opening is part of a $35 million renovation at the off-Strip property and marks the second Boomer’s location in the state.
Good to Know
The launch celebration included a ribbon-cutting attended by Boomer’s CEO Joe Asher, Ellis Island owner Gary Ellis, Las Vegas Mayor Shelley Berkley, and former Mayor Oscar Goodman. Goodman placed the first wagers — one on the Las Vegas Raiders to win the Super Bowl and another on the San Diego Padres to win the World Series, according to the Las Vegas Review-Journal.
Ellis called partnering with Asher “like being in the football business with the Kansas City Chiefs,” adding that the sportsbook addition is part of his plan to attract more visitors.
Boomer’s made its debut last week in Elko at the Commercial Casino and will soon open a third location at Casino Valle Verde in Henderson. Asher’s goal is to have 10 Nevada sportsbooks running within a year.
The platform runs on IGT’s PlaySports technology and is currently exclusive to Nevada. While the mobile app is available for iOS and Android, state law requires in-person registration before placing bets online.
Asher, who previously served as CEO of William Hill U.S. and president of sports betting at IGT, says success will be measured by performance in Las Vegas.
“The future of this business is going to be heavily dependent on what happens here in Las Vegas,” he said.
He believes Nevada’s in-person mobile signup rule offers Boomer’s a competitive edge by creating opportunities for personal engagement.
“So much of the business in the locals’ market is mobile. The requirement to sign up in person gives us the opportunity to build up a network of books where you can sign up, deposit, and withdraw,” Asher told CDC Gaming.
Boomer’s first marketing campaign includes:
Asher says his approach comes from being a sports bettor himself:
“I’m a sports bettor and I know what matters to sports bettors. All we need is people to give us a shot, and we’ll try to earn your business.”
Ellis credited his decision to move from William Hill to Boomer’s entirely to Asher:
“I have known him for many years. He’s a class act and as knowledgeable as anyone in the business. I love the guy. He’s the real deal.”
Currently in Nevada, with locations at Ellis Island Casino (Las Vegas) and Commercial Casino (Elko). Henderson’s Casino Valle Verde will follow soon.

Boomer’s operates on IGT’s PlaySports platform.
The opening of Boomer’s Sportsbook at Ellis Island Casino is more than just a new Las Vegas betting option — it’s part of a statewide expansion aimed at building 10 Nevada locations in a year. With in-person mobile signups, deposit-matching promos, and a leadership team stacked with industry veterans, Boomer’s is betting big on the local market.
