Aston Villa has entered into a lucrative sponsorship agreement with Betano, a leading Greek online sports betting platform. This deal, marking the club’s highest sponsorship contract to date, will see Betano become the shirt sponsor for two years. The partnership is set to begin next season, coinciding with the launch of Aston Villa’s new Adidas kit.
Under this new sponsorship, Betano will contribute £20 million ($25.24 million) annually over the two-year period. This arrangement substantially exceeds the financial terms of Aston Villa’s previous deal with Chinese betting company BK8, showcasing the club’s growing commercial appeal.
The association between Aston Villa and sportswear manufacturer Adidas was brought to light earlier by Telegraph Sport. The connection is strengthened by Villa owner Nassef Sawiris’ stake in Adidas, making the partnership a natural fit. Sawiris, along with co-owner Wes Edens, has been focused on increasing the club’s commercial revenue to support its ambition to compete at the highest levels, including securing a spot in the Champions League.
It is said that Villa’s president of business operations from the United States, Chris Heck, was instrumental in brokering the Betano deal. His efforts follow the successful negotiation of the club’s partnership with Adidas and the termination of a less favorable contract with Castore.
The Betano sponsorship, extending until 2026, aligns with the sports industry’s evolving landscape, which will soon see the prohibition of gambling company logos on shirt fronts. Villa’s on-field achievements, including a strong finish last season and a quarter-final berth in the UEFA Europa Conference League, have increased the club’s attractiveness to high-value commercial partners like Betano.
Aston Villa’s promising performance in the Premier League under manager Unai Emery, currently standing fourth, positions the club well for a Champions League qualification in the expanded 36-team format.
