The NBA and WNBA will launch a responsible gaming campaign with the National Council on Problem Gambling (NCPG) during the 2026–27 NBA season, warning fans about sports betting and prediction market risks. Good To Know Sports knowledge does not protect fans from financial losses. The campaign covers sportsbook wagers and prediction market trading. Fans can find responsible gambling education and support through ResponsiblePlay.org. NBA And WNBA Put Betting Limits First Setting limits on time and money will form part of the campaign guidance. Both leagues want fans to recognise when participation becomes difficult to control and seek support before gambling harms their finances, relationships or mental well-being. Colie Edison, WNBA Chief Growth Officer, said: “Helping our fans make informed decisions is central to this effort. “By bringing this campaign to WNBA audiences, we can reach more fans with practical guidance on understanding financial risk, setting limits and recognizing when and where to find support.” The initiative extends an existing NBA partnership with NCPG to WNBA audiences and includes prediction platforms alongside traditional sportsbooks. A new advertisement will run across social media and television through league and partner channels. The leagues will confirm the creative details and debut date later. Sports betting and prediction market trading offer different ways to put money on sporting outcomes. However, the campaign carries the same warning for both: fans should treat participation as entertainment rather than dependable income. Scott Kaufman-Ross, NBA Head of Media Distribution and Partnerships, said: “As the ways people engage with sports continue to evolve, it is important that fans understand the risks associated with putting money on sports outcomes. “Through this campaign, we want to help fans make informed decisions, understand the risk and, if they choose to bet, trade or anything similar, that they do so responsibly.” For legal context, the 2018 Supreme Court ruling did not legalise sports betting nationwide. It overturned the federal restriction on state authorisation, allowing individual states to decide whether to permit and regulate sports wagering.
