The Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) has taken action against two teams accused of match-fixing during UEFA Europa Conference League qualification matches. Because of abnormal betting patterns and one-sided results, the matches in issue, which were part of the tournament’s first round, prompted suspicions.
The suspicious matches took place on July 20th, with Alashkert taking on Montenegro’s Arsenal Tivat and RFS battling against Makedonija GP. Alashkert won convincingly 6-1, progressing with a 7-2 aggregate score, while RFS won 4-1, resulting in a 5-1 aggregate.
UEFA has banned both winning teams from the tournament due to illicit betting patterns uncovered during both matches. The football governing body is currently launching an inquiry into the situation, and no further information has been released.
UEFA highlights its commitment to preserving football’s integrity, notably in tackling match-fixing problems. To tackle such challenges, the organization collaborates closely with its integrity officers at the national association level.
RFS denied any involvement in questionable activities and reaffirmed the club’s commitment to integrity standards both on and off the field. The squad stated its dedication to demonstrating its performance on the pitch and declined to speak further on the topic.
The UEFA’s swift action underscores its determination to uphold the integrity of its competitions and investigate any potential breaches of fair play within the sport. The ongoing investigation will shed further light on the nature and extent of the suspected match-fixing activities.
