A comprehensive research on anticipated trends in sports betting for the 2024–25 season has been released by Optimove, just as the NFL gets ready to kick off its new season on Thursday, September 5. The “Insights 2024-25 Consumer Reports on NFL Wagering Intentions” provide insight into the actions of sports bettors over the season and demonstrate the increasing interest in NFL betting.
71% of sports bettors want to gamble on at least one NFL game each week this season, up significantly from 63% last year, according to Optimove’s study. Furthermore, it is anticipated that the proportion of wagerers who place several wagers each week would rise from 37% in the previous season to 43% in 2024.
The report also delves into the spending patterns of NFL bettors. It reveals that 32% of bettors typically place wagers between $11 and $50 per bet. Meanwhile, a small group of high rollers, known as “whales,” makes up 5% of bettors who consistently wager $500 or more per bet. Another significant group, representing 29%, wagers between $51 and $100 per bet, further demonstrating the strong financial commitment of many NFL bettors.
Optimove’s analysis also examines the major players in the sports betting market. Currently, DraftKings and FanDuel dominate, holding 24% and 22% of the market share, respectively, among NFL bettors. However, the landscape remains fluid, as 23% of bettors do not show loyalty to a single platform and typically use at least three different apps to compare odds.
Even with the increasing excitement, most gamblers exercise caution. According to the survey, 90% of bettors have a strict budget, however 55% of bettors are likely to wager $51 or more each bet. The fact that two-thirds of respondents acknowledge that they occasionally go over their budget shows how important it is to strike a balance when it comes to NFL betting between excitement and moderation.
The betting scene is expected to get even more intense as the NFL season draws near, with newcomers like Fanatics and ESPN Bet vying for market share. According to Optimove’s views, while many bettors are keen to engage, many are also conscious of how well they manage their expenditures.
