Stern Measures on Gambling Ads Likely To Be Introduced In Romania

Share

Romania is preparing to take stern measure on gambling advertising, following the opening of its gaming and sports betting market to regulated international operations.

As per the reports, the Government is planning to introduce a Draft Law, that is currently awaiting approval in the Romanian Senate, which when adopted, will amend the existing laws on advertising.

According to this Draft Law, the gambling ads would only be allowed in gambling oriented publications and gambling premises. It would bring a ban on any activity related to the promotion of gambling services and audiovisual commercial communications.

The interpretation of the proposed legislation could hold different meanings of what will be legal or not if this Draft Law is implemented.

However, if adopted, this Draft Law may collide with existing advertising and gambling laws. The inability of the Draft to give clear insight on the exact meaning of the terms in the Draft would stir further debate in relation to the proposed amendments’ adequateness.
