New Jersey sportsbooks rebounded sharply in July, taking $97 million in gross revenue from $816.9 million in wagers. The 11.9% hold ranked as the highest of 2026 and helped erase a weak June for operators.
Good to Know
July gave New Jersey sportsbooks a much better result after June produced only a 6.2% hold on $917 million in wagers. Operators benefited from the later stages of the FIFA World Cup, including the United States exit against Belgium and Spain defeating Argentina.
The effect showed most clearly outside baseball, basketball and football. New Jersey reports soccer inside its other sports category, which generated $309.2 million in wagers during July. Handle rose 60% from a year earlier, while revenue jumped 150% to $37 million.
Operators kept about 12% of wagers in that category. Parlays performed even better, producing a 19.1% hold from close to $50 million in betting volume.
Combined with other results, New Jersey sportsbooks finished July with their best monthly hold since July 2024.
Baseball still generated the highest handle among individual sports listed by the New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement. However, baseball betting volume fell 10.6% year over year, while operator revenue declined 9.2%.

New Jersey collected about $20 million in sports betting taxes during July. Sports wagering tax revenue reached $127.3 million through the first seven months of 2026.
A tax change also adds useful context to those figures. New Jersey increased the tax rate on online sports wagering gross revenue from 13% to 19.75% on July 1, 2025, while retail sports betting remains taxed at 8.5%.
Online casinos remained the larger digital gaming revenue source during July. New Jersey iGaming operators generated $276.9 million, up 12% from the same month last year.
