The NBA left Las Vegas without an expansion vote after its latest owners meetings. Commissioner Adam Silver still expects the league to reach a decision before the end of 2026.
Good to Know
“No votes have been taken yet. We’ve got a ways to go in terms of discussions with interested parties, but I’m optimistic about the future here,” Silver said.
League owners unanimously approved a formal review of Las Vegas and Seattle in March. That vote opened the door to ownership bids but did not guarantee either city a team.
Potential buyers may need to offer between $7 billion and $10 billion for each franchise. The range would place any expansion sale close to the highest team valuations in professional basketball.
Las Vegas has hosted NBA Summer League since 2004 and also stages NBA Cup games. Silver called local interest in a permanent team “music to my ears.”
“I really appreciate what we’re seeing so far, so it’s very encouraging,” Silver said.
