LiveScore Group is trimming exposure outside core markets as tax pressure builds at home. The company confirmed plans to close LiveScore Bet in Bulgaria, tying the decision to higher costs in the UK and early warning signs in Eastern Europe.
Good to Know
LiveScore Group confirmed plans to withdraw its LiveScore Bet brand from Bulgaria before the end of 2025. The company said LiveScore Bet will formally cease operations in the country and has already started reaching out to local customers with guidance on next steps.
The announcement came in a short statement and framed the exit as part of a broader effort to manage rising costs and regulatory pressure.
The decision links directly to changes in the UK tax environment. In November, authorities confirmed higher charges for UK licensed operators, reshaping long term cost planning for online betting and gaming firms.
Remote gaming duty will rise from 21 percent to 40 percent starting April 2026. A new general betting duty for remote betting will also take effect by April 2027, increasing to 25 percent from 15 percent. The duty applies only to online betting profit and excludes self service betting terminals, spread betting, pool bets, and horse racing bets.
He said:
“The decision is a strategic mitigation following the UK government 2025 autumn budget, which saw significant increases to both remote gaming duty and general betting duty.”
LiveScore also pointed to developments inside Bulgaria as part of the calculus. Lawmakers in the country have held early discussions around raising gambling tax as a way to narrow the national budget deficit.
That possibility created added uncertainty for operators already weighing thinner margins. LiveScore said the lack of clarity around future tax policy contributed to the final call to exit.
He said:
“Refocusing of resources ensures LiveScore Group remains robust and agile for the future.”
LiveScore said all impacted people have already been informed and are part of a confidential consultation process. Work is now under way to notify all LiveScore Bet customers in Bulgaria and explain how accounts and balances will be handled ahead of the shutdown.
