Kentucky residents will soon be able to place legal sports bets as the state prepares to establish its sports betting market in less than 60 days. On Monday, Governor Andy Beshear, lawmakers, and the Kentucky Horse Racing Commission made the much-anticipated announcement.
The Kentucky Horse Racing Commission unanimously voted in favour of laws that will govern sports betting in the state during a news conference. At the event, Governor Beshear officially signed the regulations.
According to the roadmap, retail sports betting establishments will open their doors on September 7, allowing residents to place bets in person. On September 28, mobile sports betting applications will be available, providing Kentuckians with a handy and accessible option to wager on sports.
Governor Beshear expressed his excitement, calling it a historic day for the state. He emphasized the good impact of sports betting on the state’s economy, emphasizing the additional cash it will provide to support critical programmes like as pension funding, education, economic development, disaster recovery, and infrastructure improvements.
Governor Beshear signed House Bill 551, bipartisan legislation legalizing sports betting in Kentucky, into law in March. The bill set the path for the state to regulate and implement sports betting.
Executive Director Jamie Eads of the Kentucky Horse Racing Commission emphasized the commission’s readiness to regulate sports betting activities, citing the experience and skills of their wagering compliance team. The next step will be to open the licensing application process and assess responses from interested parties.
Beginning July 11, licensed horseracing businesses in Kentucky will be able to apply for a retail sportsbook at either their primary facility or a satellite location. This will allow these facilities to prepare for the launch of sports betting and provide bettors across the state with a varied variety of possibilities.
