Kalshi already reshaped prediction markets in the United States. Now, leadership at the company is looking south, with Brazil on the radar as early as next year.
Good to Know
Luana Lopes Lara, co-founder of Kalshi, said the company is evaluating a possible expansion into Brazil in 2026. She shared the plans during an interview with Valor.
Based in New York, Kalshi has become one of the biggest disruptors of 2025 across gambling and financial markets. The platform drew attention for event-based contracts tied to politics, economics, and sports. Critics argue that sports-related contracts sit outside traditional state betting rules, raising regulatory questions.
Even so, major US betting operators moved quickly in the same direction. DraftKings and FanDuel both launched prediction market products earlier this month. Each partnered with CME Group to list contracts, signaling broader industry interest.
Brazil sits high on Kalshi plans. Lopes Lara, who is Brazilian, said the country holds personal and strategic value. She said Kalshi plans to expand internationally after completing a third fundraising round that valued the company at $11 billion.
“One of the first things we announced after the round was our plan to expand internationally,” she said to Valor. “Brazil means a lot to me. I really want us to operate there.
“We’re still studying how to do it, but I hope we can announce something in early 2026.”
She also pointed out that Brazil currently lacks a platform comparable to Kalshi, even after the country launched a regulated online betting market in 2025.
