FanDuel Adds Two Policy Veterans to Guide Gaming Strategy

Share

FanDuel has added two experienced names to its public policy team, aiming to strengthen its presence in federal and public affairs during a time of shifting regulation in online gaming. The company announced the hires of Jonathan Nabavi and Shailagh Murray on Monday.

Good to know

  • Nabavi joins from the NFL, where he led public policy and legislative efforts.
  • Murray most recently handled public affairs at Columbia University.
  • FanDuel sees these roles as key to shaping long-term gaming policy.

Nabavi, who spent years as vice president of public policy and legislative affairs at the NFL, will now take on the role of vice president of federal affairs at FanDuel. His work at the league involved navigating regulatory issues and maintaining relationships in Washington, experience that FanDuel hopes will help guide its efforts on Capitol Hill.

Meanwhile, Murray steps in as senior vice president of public affairs. She previously served as executive vice president at Columbia University, and before that worked in the Obama administration as a senior communications advisor and deputy chief of staff to Vice President Joe Biden. Her background combines politics, academia, and public messaging — a mix FanDuel sees as valuable in upcoming policy discussions.

The company’s move to strengthen its policy bench comes at a time when lawmakers continue debating how to regulate online sports betting and gaming across the United States. Each state currently takes a different approach, with some still hesitant to allow full access to legal mobile betting platforms.

FanDuel president Christian Genetski said the current uncertainty played a big part in the timing of the appointments:

“As we look to the future, we understand the important role FanDuel must play in policy discussions that will address how we build and shape the online gaming industry over the long term.”

He added:

“Shailagh and Jon bring decades of experience navigating difficult policy issues in a thoughtful, collaborative manner. We are confident they are the right leaders to work alongside key stakeholders to grow our industry responsibly and sustainably.”
