IBIA Flags 63 Suspicious Betting Alerts Across Six Sports in Q1

Suspicious betting activity held steady in early 2025, with football and tennis drawing the most alerts, according to new data from IBIA.

IBIA tracked 63 alerts between January and March 2025, identifying suspicious betting patterns across six sports in 23 countries. That figure is slightly down from 65 alerts in Q4 2024, but 11 percent higher than the 57 alerts reported in Q1 last year.

Football and tennis remained the most affected, accounting for 40 of the total alerts, or 64 percent. Although combined reports for these two sports rose from the prior year, they dropped by 14 percent compared to Q4 2024 due to a decline in tennis-related alerts.

Geographically, 32 alerts were linked to events in Europe and North America, representing just over half of the total but marking a 29 percent fall from the previous quarter.

Table tennis showed the sharpest change. The sport triggered only 9 alerts in Q1, compared to 21 in Q4 2024. That 53 percent drop followed IBIA’s move to tighten monitoring and implement new agreements aimed at reducing risks in the sport.

Khalid Ali, CEO of IBIA, commented on the broader trend. “The first quarter of 2025 was relatively consistent with the previous quarter and the comparable period last year. Football and tennis remain the most reported sports, albeit their combined Q1 2025 number was down 14% on Q4 2024. This quarter-on-quarter reduction was primarily due to a fall in tennis alerts, which have shown a welcome reduction in recent years. The Q4 2024 increase in table tennis alerts has not continued into Q1 2025 and has fallen back to previous levels. IBIA has taken increased precautions regarding this sport and agreed a number of new integrity partnerships and protocols in Q1 with the aim of detecting and sanctioning corrupt betting activity.”

IBIA works with over 80 operators and more than 140 betting brands worldwide, monitoring over $300 billion in annual betting turnover. The organization collaborates with regulators and sports authorities to combat match-fixing and maintain betting integrity.
