DraftKings has activated its online sportsbook in Puerto Rico, allowing eligible residents to place wagers across the island after completing an in person registration process.
Good to Know
The Boston based operator confirmed that customers must first visit the retail sportsbook inside Foxwoods El San Juan to open and verify an account. After registration, approved users can place bets anywhere within Puerto Rico using the mobile platform.
“Puerto Rico has a passionate sports community, and launching our online sportsbook allows us to meet fans where they are,” said Gregory Karamitis, DraftKings executive vice president and general manager of sports. “With retail already live at Foxwoods El San Juan Casino, mobile represents the next step in expanding the DraftKings experience across the island – giving eligible local customers a seamless, exciting, and responsible way to engage with sports.”
Retail wagering at the San Juan property began operating in November, forming the foundation for the broader digital rollout. Mobile access now links directly to that casino based operation, creating a hybrid model that combines physical verification with island wide wagering.
Access rules draw a clear line between residents and visitors. Travelers cannot use the mobile sportsbook and may place bets only in person at the Foxwoods El San Juan location.
Puerto Rico legalized sports betting in 2019 after the United States Supreme Court struck down PASPA, allowing states and territories to establish their own regulatory frameworks. Local authorities chose a casino partnership model rather than a fully open digital market.
Competition has grown steadily. BetMGM and Caesars entered earlier through agreements with casino operators, while FanDuel launched recently via a retail and mobile partnership with CAGE Puerto Rico. DraftKings now joins that group, giving the territory four major United States based sportsbook brands.
Lawmakers have not authorized online casino play, keeping iGaming outside the legal market even as mobile sports wagering expands.
