BetBlocker Expands to North America with U.S. Unit

Share

Originally founded as a charity in the United Kingdom, BetBlocker has now formally entered the North American market with the launch of BetBlocker US. Free self-exclusion software is offered by the group to assist users in preventing access to gambling websites.

The Colorado Lottery and BetBlocker have teamed to integrate the charity’s self-exclusion tools into the state’s resources for responsible gambling, which is a big step. Because of this partnership, users are able to restrict their gaming without the assistance of casino operators.

The introduction coincides with a growing focus on responsible gambling regulations as a result of the gambling industry’s explosive growth in several U.S. states. Effective self-exclusion methods are necessary, as evidenced by a study published in JAMA Internal Medicine that emphasized the growing worry of gambling addiction.

Expanding Language Support

BetBlocker US is now registered as a 501(c) non-profit in Delaware, enhancing its credibility and allowing it to serve a broader audience in North America. To cater to diverse communities, BetBlocker has announced plans to support multiple languages. Currently, the software is available in English and Spanish, with a Chinese-language version set to launch soon. These languages represent some of the most widely spoken in the United States.

The organization has already developed resources in 17 additional languages and has established a presence among users worldwide.

BetBlocker’s North American expansion is part of a broader strategy to make responsible gambling software accessible globally. Last month, the organization launched an Italian-language version of its software to support users in Italy. Additionally, BetBlocker expanded into African markets, offering services in languages such as Bemba, Nyanja, and Tonga.

In Europe, BetBlocker has collaborated with industry partners to promote responsible gambling. During European Safer Gambling Week 2024, the charity partnered with EveryMatrix to release a Maltese-language software version. EveryMatrix also teamed up with BetMGM to create ‘Family-Feud-themed’ slot games, aiming to enhance responsible gaming products in Malta.

BetBlocker creator and trustee Duncan Garvie stated, “BetBlocker’s pioneering free support has been minimizing harm for tens of thousands of people all over the world for close to a decade now. By establishing the U.S. arm of the charity, it is our hope that we can raise the profile of the service in North America and support tens of thousands more people in the coming years. It is my strong belief that paywalls between users and support for gambling harm create a barrier that ensures that the most vulnerable, and the least able to pay, are the least able to access support. Free support is essential, and I’m confident that in the coming years we will be there for hundreds of thousands of people across the North American continent, that would otherwise struggle to manage their gambling.”
