A new online survey carried out by the American Gaming Association (AGA) between February 26-27 among 2,210 American adults, shows that more than 17% of American adults plan to wager an estimated $3.1 billion on this year’s, March Madness, NCAA Men’s Division I Basketball Tournament. This includes placing a bet online, with a bookie, with a casino sportsbook, with family or friends or as a part of a bracket league.

In absolute numbers, 45 million people will be trying their luck on the event, with almost half of those, 20.9 million to place their bets outside of a bracket contest, with a retail sportsbook (online or bookie) or among friends.

AGA President and CEO, Bill Miller, said:

“Americans continue to make it clear: they want to wager with the protections of the legal, regulated market. There’s no doubt this year will generate the highest legal handle in March Madness history”.
