In a strategic alliance, the International Betting Integrity Association (IBIA) and the Portuguese online betting and gambling association (APAJO) have inked a Memorandum of Understanding. This collaboration targets the preservation of betting and sports integrity, along with fostering a secure and sustainable environment for online sports betting.
Together these associations, representing key operators in the European sphere, will explore collaborative initiatives and potential combined projects aimed at achieving shared objectives.
These cooperative projects will harness the expertise of both associations, focusing on nurturing a regulated sports betting market in Portugal that boasts high consumer engagement and robust integrity measures for consumers, sports, and operators.
Ricardo Domingues, the President of the Executive Committee of APAJO, spoke about their association’s commitment to creating an ideal environment for Portuguese consumers and operators. He emphasized the importance of sports integrity in achieving this goal. Domingues expressed delight over the agreement with IBIA, acknowledging their extensive knowledge in the field. He stated, “We’re excited to join forces with IBIA. Their vast experience in this area will undoubtedly be invaluable. We’re eager to contribute at an international level for the advancement of the entire industry.”
Echoing Domingues’s enthusiasm, Khalid Ali, the CEO of IBIA, highlighted the importance of Portugal as a market for their members. He stressed the significance of maintaining the integrity of betting and sporting events. Ali said, “This agreement with APAJO signals the beginning of a unified approach in accomplishing our mutual goals. We aim to establish and maintain a dynamic, competitive, and well-regulated Portuguese betting market. Our mission is to deter corruption, prevent consumers from straying into unregulated markets, and uphold the integrity of betting and sporting events.”
