Ubisoft, renowned for creating Assassin’s Creed and Just Dance, has now partnered with XPLA network, taking on the role of node validator. This move, detailed on XPLA’s Medium page, highlights Ubisoft’s commitment to integrating blockchain technology into gaming through its Strategic Innovation Lab. The partnership is a strategic step to bridge the gap between gaming and blockchain, enhancing the XPLA network with Ubisoft’s deep game development expertise.
By becoming part of the XPLA ecosystem, Ubisoft aims to boost the network’s security and efficiency in handling transactions and data. The network, built on the Tendermint blockchain engine, is a hub for leading crypto games like Summoners War and The Walking Dead. Ubisoft’s involvement is expected to improve network performance, security, and transparency, collaborating with other key validators such as Animoca Brands, Google Cloud, and Com2uS.
Ubisoft’s contribution to the XPLA network extends to participating in governance proposals, showing a deep commitment to the ecosystem’s growth. Paul Kim, XPLA’s team lead, welcomed Ubisoft’s involvement, foreseeing it will aid in building a transparent, trustworthy web3 ecosystem that attracts players globally.
Ubisoft’s engagement with blockchain began in 2018, focusing on blockchain games and NFTs through strategic investments and partnerships. The company’s blockchain pursuits expanded in October 2023 by joining the Cronos network as a validator, emphasizing its exploration of NFT gaming. Ubisoft has been a pioneer in incorporating NFTs into major titles, such as introducing NFT in-game items in “Ghost Recon: Breakpoint.” A partnership with Immutable in November 2023 furthered Ubisoft’s innovation in digital ownership for gamers. Additionally, Ubisoft runs validators on networks like Tezos and Hedera, demonstrating its leadership in merging gaming with blockchain technology.
