A group of game creators and Stanford PhDs have launched Tales, an innovative AI gaming project, and they have released their ground-breaking first product: a Large World Model (LWM). With just a few basic prompts, this cutting-edge technology can create whole virtual worlds, completely changing the way games are made and enjoyed.
With the aim of transforming the gaming landscape, Tales allows users to craft fully functional games without any prior development or design experience. At the core of this initiative is Sia, a radical AI model that harnesses crowdsourced data, resources, and infrastructure. Similar to chatbots like ChatGPT and Claude, which utilize Large Language Models (LLMs) for text processing, Tales is focused on building its own LWM specifically for video game creation. This model comprehensively understands and generates all aspects of a video game, including environments, physics, 3D models, gameplay footage, and NPC (non-player character) behavior, along with detailed metadata.
Unlike LLMs, which learn language patterns from extensive text data, Tales’ LWM is trained on gameplay data, video content, 3D assets, and user feedback. This unique training process enables the model to grasp how games are structured, refining its ability to create intricate game elements and mechanics.
Users can create fully functional games simply by providing prompts like, “make a first-person shooter in space.” The LWM can generate the requested game, allowing for customization and immediate playability. This tool effectively represents a leap forward in procedurally generating games in real time, significantly evolving existing AI capabilities.
Beyond gaming, Tales offers potential for creating virtual reality worlds, interactive experiences, and immersive educational tools. This diversified approach appeals to prospective investors by showcasing various applications of the technology.
