The Esports World Cup, a prestigious annual multi-game esports tournament, has officially partnered with ESL FACEIT Group (EFG) as its operating partner. This collaboration, announced by EFG, ensures the tournament’s ongoing success through EFG’s operational excellence and industry-leading experience.
Ralf Reichert, CEO of the Esports World Cup Foundation, expressed enthusiasm about the partnership, stating, “EFG’s operational excellence and industry-leading experience have been invaluable as we execute this world-first event, and we’re excited to lean on our multi-year partnership as we look to expand Esports World Cup programming and accelerate the industry’s growth.” This alliance signifies a commitment to enhancing the tournament’s reach and impact.
The upcoming Esports World Cup 2024 is set to take place at Boulevard City, Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, from July 3 to August 25. Featuring 22 game championships, it boasts a record-breaking $60 million prize pool, the largest in esports history for a single tournament. While the venue for future events remains unconfirmed, it is expected that Riyadh will continue to host this monumental event.
EFG plans to integrate Esports World Cup titles into its ESL, DreamHack, and FACEIT platforms, broadening the tournament’s exposure. This integration is part of EFG’s effort to host qualifiers for various games leading up to the Esports World Cup 2024. The tournament will feature two main types of competitions: those that are part of the official esports roadmap for a game, supported by publishers, and third-party format tournaments.
Publisher-backed events like the MLBB MSC Cup, PUBG Mobile World Cup, and Honor of Kings Midseason Cup will see teams qualifying through regional publisher-led esports events. On the other hand, games such as League of Legends, Fortnite, and Apex Legends will be part of the third-party tournaments. EFG has organized regional EWC Qualifiers or seeded these events through other competitions it runs, such as DreamHack.
Notably, the Esports World Cup is backed by the Saudi government. The Saudi government’s Public Investment Fund owns Savvy Games Group, which acquired ESL and FACEIT in 2022 to form EFG. This support underscores the significant investment and commitment from the region towards advancing the esports industry.
The collaboration between EFG and the Esports World Cup marks a pivotal moment in esports, promising growth and exciting developments in the competitive gaming landscape.
