Call of Duty Mobile is shaking things up with a new gameplay feature spotted in its Season 5 test server. Known as Auto Lean or Corner Slicing, the mechanic lets your operator peek around cover automatically, without needing extra input. Players are already testing it out, but it remains to be seen if it will make it into the final update.
Good to know
Call of Duty fans might recognize the leaning mechanic from earlier titles. It first appeared in the original 2003 PC version and later in console games like Ghosts (2013) and Modern Warfare (2019). However, COD Mobile has stayed away from it until now.
Players had earlier raised concerns about screen clutter if manual leaning were introduced. The current automated version seems to address that by avoiding the need for extra HUD elements.
Auto Lean kicks in when an operator jogs slowly into cover. The character leans slightly, allowing the player to aim around obstacles without full exposure. That sounds helpful—but some players believe the feature currently focuses more on animation polish than functional gameplay value.
Compared to games like PUBG Mobile, where manual peeking gives a clear advantage, COD Mobile’s auto-lean appears less focused on tactical vision and more on visual movement. The camera does shift slightly, but not enough (yet) to promise a real competitive edge.
Leaning in COD has often played into tactics like “headglitching,” where only a tiny part of a player’s head shows while they shoot. It is partly unintentional design and partly player creativity. Auto Lean could extend those tactics further, especially in Search and Destroy, where movement and positioning are key.
Warzone Mobile might be losing traction, and TiMi Studios along with Activision seem to be pivoting their attention back to COD Mobile. Features like Auto Lean that were once tied to Warzone Mobile are now being adapted for the main mobile title.
Still in Testing Phase
Although the feature is active on the test server, there is no guarantee it will appear in the official Season 5 update. Activision has yet to confirm its inclusion or announce a rollout timeline. As always, patch notes will have the final word.
