Argentina Cuts 30 Percent Tax on Foreign Gaming Platforms

Share

Argentina has dropped the 30% income and property tax that used to apply to purchases made on international gaming platforms. Players using services like Steam, PlayStation Network, Sony, and Epic Games can now expect to pay less for subscriptions, game content, and digital services.

Good to Know

  • Argentina removes 30% income and property tax on international gaming platforms
  • Users still pay 21% VAT on digital products and services
  • Platforms like PlayStation Network, Steam, Sony, and Epic Games are included

This shift follows the government’s April 11, 2025 move to ease currency controls, allowing Argentinians to freely buy and sell foreign exchange. That change set the stage for a potential drop in taxes across digital platforms—and the first real change has arrived.

Until now, anyone buying games or services from foreign portals paid a total of 51% in taxes. That included 21% VAT and an additional 30% in income and personal property tax. With the 30% now gone, the final cost drops significantly for most digital users.

Although the change doesn’t directly target gambling or betting platforms, it reflects a broader effort to support digital entertainment and service consumption. And if the government continues in this direction, more relief could reach online gambling providers too.

Argentina’s Customs Control and Collection Agency (ARCA) shared a list of gaming platforms that are now exempt from the 30% charge. These include major names like PlayStation Network, Steam, Epic Games, and Sony. According to the agency, companies that fail to update their prices and continue charging the extra tax will be required to issue refunds by next month.

The policy change aligns with a wider economic strategy focused on easing restrictions and encouraging digital spending. While more updates are likely, this step already gives a clear signal—Argentina wants to make it easier and cheaper for its users to access online services.
