Startup Yuga Labs, renowned for its creation of the Bored Ape Yacht Club (BAYC), has made a strategic decision to sell two of its gaming IPs to Web3 gaming studio Faraway. This move comes as part of Yuga’s ongoing collaboration with Faraway, dating back to last year.
Faraway has acquired both HV-MTL and Legends of the Mara, along with their associated NFT collections, from Yuga Labs. Additionally, Spencer Tucker, Yuga Labs’ Chief Gaming Officer, will transition to Faraway as its new Chief Product Officer, ensuring a seamless continuation of the games under the new company’s stewardship.
Both Otherside, a metaverse gaming platform powered by ApeCoin, and Dookey Dash, a redesigned Bored Ape game by Faraway that is available for free play, are gaming properties that Yuga Labs will continue to hold after this deal. This strategy adjustment is intended to increase the company’s emphasis on Otherside and its NFT collections, according to comments made by Yuga Labs CEO Greg Solano on Twitter.
In order to maintain compatibility between their separate gaming environments, Yuga Labs is still dedicated to working closely with Faraway, even after HV-MTL Forge and Legends of the Mara were sold. Notably, players will now be able to earn prizes on both platforms as Koda animals from Legends of the Mara contribute to Faraway’s point system.
