Yield Guild Games (YGG) has stepped into publishing with the launch of YGG Play, a division focused on developing “Casual Degen” titles for Web3 players. The debut release, LOL Land, went live on the Abstract Chain on May 23, 2025, and quickly became one of the most talked-about games in the crypto gaming community.
Good to know
LOL Land blends casual board game mechanics with tokenized rewards. Players roll dice, unlock tiles, and earn points that can be redeemed for NFTs, $YGG tokens, and Abstract XP. Free Mode lets players roll endlessly without rewards, while Premium Mode converts purchased rolls into tokens from a $10 million pool.
The game features nine boards, including YGG City, Beach Day, Carnival, and Pirate Cove. Special collaborations brought Ice World Wonderland and Pengu Wonderland with Pudgy Penguins and Pengu Asia, while Gigaland was built with PlayGigaverse, marking YGG’s first third-party publishing partnership. Well-known community members like Gabby Dizon, Aaron Teng, and OwlOfMoistness also appear as characters.
Pudgy Penguins CEO Luca Netz praised the tie-in, saying:
“LOL Land is a game built by degens for degens. The Pudgy tie-ins reinforce Abstract as the chain where Web3-native intellectual property expands into accessible consumer experiences.”
The launch was celebrated globally, with Pudgy Penguins Malaysia hosting an offline event in Kuala Lumpur featuring a life-sized game board.
Gabby Dizon described the concept as “Casual Degen,” combining the appeal of mobile casual games with Web3 rewards:
“People already spend on casual games,” he said. “By blending that familiar format with Web3 rewards, we’re creating something that feels native to crypto culture yet remains easy to pick up and play.”
LOL Land benefits from Abstract’s user-friendly infrastructure, including email login and recoverable wallets. Abstract’s XP system also rewards players for exploring new titles, a feature that has already boosted adoption for other games on the chain.
Financially, LOL Land has exceeded early expectations, recovering its costs and generating over $2.5 million within three months. YGG expects revenues to surpass $4 million annually and has begun using earnings to repurchase $YGG tokens.
YGG Play plans to roll out additional boards and partnerships, evolving from a gaming guild into a full Web3 publisher. The success of LOL Land suggests that simple, engaging browser games could become a driving force in the next wave of crypto gaming.
