Unique Victor Wembanyama Sorare card was auctioned for a record-breaking $110,199.79, outdoing the $67.3k fetched by a signed physical rookie card of the same player in August. This sale, which concluded at 12 pm ET on Thursday, 2nd November, marks a new milestone in the value and recognition of digital sports memorabilia.

The card, showcasing the 19-year-old French basketball prodigy, is not only the sole ‘1 of 1’ Unique Wembanyama on the market but also stands out due to its sophisticated 3D design and the integration of augmented reality (AR) technology. These features, introduced in Season 2 of Sorare’s NBA fantasy game, enhance the interactivity and visual appeal of the card.

Wembanyama, playing his debut season for the San Antonio Spurs, has made an impressive entry into the NBA, becoming the first French player and the second European to be the first overall draft pick. His performance in the early season, leading in points, defensive steals, and tackles among rookies, has quickly made him one of the NBA’s most closely followed young stars.

The sale of Wembanyama’s digital card for such a high price reflects not only his burgeoning fame and talent but also the growing appreciation and value of digital collectibles over traditional physical ones. Factors like assured ownership and actual utility play a crucial role in this shift.

Interestingly, this is the first Unique card sold for Wembanyama, symbolizing his lightning fast rise in the basketball world. In comparison, the Unique card of two-time league MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo was sold for $187,348.03 during the 2022-2023 season.

The 2023-2024 Unique Wembanyama Sorare card is more than just a collectible; it’s a functional asset in Sorare’s weekly fantasy NBA tournaments. Its enhanced design and AR technology add to its appeal, allowing users to earn points and rewards.

Sorare’s marketplace operates through regular auctions on the Primary market, with the final prices of cards driven by the demand from Sorare Managers. All cards start at the same base price, with a set expiration date and time, going to the highest bidder. Once an auction is won, the transaction becomes final, adding a sense of thrill and finality to each purchase
