Triumph Games has acquired the web3 fantasy MMORPG Legends of Elumia, originally built on the Ronin blockchain. The studio now wants to make the game more accessible by introducing a free to play model aimed at both traditional gamers and web3 users.
Previously, only NFT holders or players who bought a Ronin Game Pass could access the game. Those who joined through the pass had a chance to earn leaderboard rewards and enter a $100,000 raffle over a four-week period. While the pass campaign has ended, Triumph Games appears ready to move beyond that limited approach.
The company said it wants to open the game up to a wider audience by removing the current barriers to entry. According to Triumph Games, the new model will focus on “ease of access,” allowing anyone to play the game on PC or mobile without needing to own NFTs.
What this free to play version will look like has not been fully explained. Triumph Games hasn’t revealed if the monetization system will change or whether there will be updates to the development team. For now, players are waiting to hear more about how the acquisition will affect Legends of Elumia going forward.
More details may be shared soon during an upcoming X Space event scheduled for Thursday, April 10 at 3 PM UTC. The 60-minute session, called “The Future of Games Ep 18 We Bought an MMO,” will feature a roundtable discussion about the acquisition, web3 gaming trends, and the broader gaming economy.
Speakers for the event include representatives from Triumph Games, the BattleRise and ArmourX teams—both under the same publisher—Open Loot’s @bigtimethomas, and @callmekodak0, who is part of Kronicles and an Oasys ambassador.
Legends of Elumia has positioned itself as one of the more immersive blockchain-based MMORPGs, but access had been limited. Triumph Games now looks to shift that direction by making it more inclusive and available to everyday gamers, regardless of whether they are part of the web3 space.
