Honor of Kings Championship 2024 Announced with $1 Million Prize Pool

Share

The Honor of Kings Championship 2024, a significant worldwide esports competition that will cap off the current Honor of Kings esports season, has been revealed by Level Infinite. The goal of the competition, which is scheduled for October 2024, is to crown the ultimate global champion of this well-liked mobile game.

A substantial $1 million prize pool will be available for the newly renamed Honor of Kings Championship 2024, formerly known as the Honor of Kings International Championship. When compared to prior years, when the prize pools might have topped $10 million, this is a considerable decrease. Changes in regional participation and tournament structure are reflected in the prize pool amount.

Historically, the Honor of Kings International Championship included teams from both Honor of Kings and Arena of Valor, showcasing some of the highest stakes in mobile esports. This year’s reduction to $1 million might be attributed to the exclusion of China, a key player in the Honor of Kings esports scene.

Impact of Excluding China

The exclusion of Chinese teams from the tournament could be a major factor behind the reduced prize pool. In past tournaments, Chinese teams have dominated, highlighting the country’s advanced esports scene. The KIC 2023, for example, saw only Chinese teams advancing to the Playoffs despite a diverse initial field.

This year’s Honor of Kings Midseason Cup also focused solely on a “dream team” from China. The same approach might be adopted for the Championship, potentially impacting Chinese viewership and sponsorships. The decline in these critical areas could be influencing the decision to scale back the prize pool.

Tournament Location and Competition

Scheduled to take place in Indonesia, the Honor of Kings Championship 2024 will see sixteen teams competing across various regions, including:

  • Indonesia
  • The Philippines
  • Malaysia
  • Myanmar
  • Turkey
  • Brazil
  • Middle East and North Africa
  • America
  • Europe
  • Pacific

The choice of Indonesia as the host nation is strategic, aiming to draw attention away from Mobile Legends: Bang Bang (MLBB), which has recently expanded into China. By hosting the Championship in a region popular for mobile esports, Level Infinite hopes to attract a larger global audience.
