After nearly a year of anticipation, the PC version of Final Fantasy 16 finally has a release date. While some fans speculated it might make a surprise appearance at Gamescom, the official launch is set for September 17. Additionally, a playable demo is available now, allowing eager players to experience a portion of the game before its full release.
The PC version of Final Fantasy 16 comes in two editions: a standard edition and a “complete edition.” The complete edition includes the base game along with two expansions, The Rising Tide and Echoes of the Fallen. Players who pre-purchase either edition will receive bonus items, including the Cait Sith’s Charm accessory, the Sixteen Bells Orchestrion Roll, and the Brave Blade weapon.
The newly released demo provides access to the opening section of Final Fantasy 16, along with a special “Eikonic Challenge” mode. This mode, designed exclusively for the demo, highlights the game’s mechanics through a dungeon quest and a boss battle. Importantly, players can carry their progress from the demo (excluding the Eikonic Challenge) into the full game, eliminating the need to replay the demo content upon release.
For those planning to play on PC, the minimum system requirements include a Windows 10/11 64-bit OS, an AMD Ryzen 5 1600 or Intel Core i5-8400 processor, 16GB of RAM, and an AMD Radeon RX 5700 or Nvidia GeForce GTX 1070 graphics card. To enjoy the game at 60FPS and 1080p resolution, the recommended specs include an AMD Ryzen 7 5700X or Intel Core i7-10700, 16GB of RAM, and an AMD Radeon RX 6700 XT or Nvidia GeForce RTX 2080.
This release marks a significant step for Square Enix as it shifts toward a broader multiplatform strategy, moving away from its traditional Sony exclusivity. As part of this strategy, the company aims to “aggressively pursue” opportunities on platforms like Nintendo, Xbox, and PC.
Final Fantasy 16 for PC is available for pre-purchase now on both Steam and the Epic Games Store, with links to the demo accessible through the store pages.
