Confiction Labs, the developer behind the cooperative roguelite shooter game Riftstorm, has introduced a new NFT allowlist verification system called Proof of Exposure. This system aims to combat the growing issue of bots in web3 gaming by ensuring that real users, rather than automated accounts, gain access to the game’s exclusive content.
Proof of Exposure is designed to verify and reward genuine players who actively engage with the game’s world. To join the allowlist, users must apply for security clearance from the game’s fictional organization, the Mythic Protocol. This involves providing evidence of their past gaming achievements. The system profiles applicants to identify the best-suited community members to advance the game’s storyline. Those with the highest scores will gain access to the upcoming NFT collection, XPSR-24, which is part of Confiction Labs’ FICT ONE: Occultical universe.
The XPSR-24 NFTs represent elite human characters tasked with fighting mythic creatures within the game. Players increase their clearance levels by demonstrating influence, gaming skills, creativity, and onchain value. Higher levels unlock more in-game opportunities and rewards.
Confiction Labs CEO Arief Widhiyasa emphasized the importance of this system, saying, “Proof of Exposure is not just a safeguard against bots; it’s a way for our community to fully immerse in the Occultical narrative. This system ensures that those who are truly passionate and committed help shape our intellectual properties.”
Bots have become a major problem in web3 gaming, often claiming rewards meant for real players. A study by Cookie3 found that 70% of airdrops go to bot accounts, and Jigger, a bot prevention service, reported that 40% of web3 users are bots. With the growing market for blockchain games, bot activity is expected to rise unless measures like Proof of Exposure are implemented.
This system uses a detailed verification process that includes third-party APIs, data queries, and user submissions to ensure only genuine players join the FICT ONE community. The XPSR-24 application process is currently in its third week, and interested players can apply through the Confiction Labs Portal.
In addition to Proof of Exposure, Confiction Labs introduced Proof of Humanity and Proof of Network during the first week of the application process. These stages verify applicants through social account linking and their ability to build communities around the Occultical universe.
The NFTs in the XPSR-24 collection can level up and evolve through questing, with higher-level NFTs offering more rewards in future game updates.
