CCP Games, the studio behind the Eve Online franchise, has announced that its upcoming Eve Frontier will transition from the Ethereum-based Redstone gaming network to the Sui blockchain. The decision, according to the developer, is less about financial benefits and more about aligning the game’s philosophy with its long-term creative vision for sustainable virtual worlds.
Good to Know
The move to Sui marks a major milestone in CCP’s plan to build what it calls a “forever game” — a world designed to evolve endlessly with player input and community innovation. CCP Games said that Sui’s infrastructure better reflects its vision of virtual environments that are both open and enduring.
Hilmar Veigar Pétursson, founder and CEO of CCP Games, explained:
“For us, Sui offered the unique alignment of architecture, security, and user experience. Together, we’re building a world that can truly stand the test of time.”
By adopting Sui, Eve Frontier will gain improved scalability, seamless onboarding, and a modular framework for developers. Sui’s architecture enables security-enforced moddability, giving creators tools to build, customize, and expand the in-game universe safely.
The transition, currently in the testnet phase, will happen without player disruption — meaning all existing progress and items remain intact. CCP emphasized that the migration will not require users to take any action or transfer assets, ensuring a completely smooth transition.
The collaboration with Mysten Labs also opens new opportunities for hardware integration. CCP is exploring the possibility of bringing Eve Frontier to the SuiPlay0X1, a high-end mobile PC gaming device designed for Web3-enabled titles and comparable to Valve’s Steam Deck. The move would extend the game’s reach to more players while supporting native crypto integration for in-game economies.
