In Bucharest, Romania, Amazon Games has opened a new game development facility. With this expansion, Amazon now has teams in Orange County, Montreal, San Diego, and Seattle, further solidifying its commitment to developing and releasing high-caliber games.
The Bucharest facility will support both existing and upcoming products in Amazon Games’ varied gaming portfolio. The organization is hiring now in order to fill a number of available positions and build a strong team.
Christoph Hartmann, VP of Amazon Games, stated, “Amazon Games is focused on developing and publishing great games, and we have an ambitious long-term roadmap in front of us.” He emphasized that expanding into Europe was a natural move given Bucharest’s reputation as a leading game development hub.
Amazon Games appointed Cristian Pana to head the Bucharest studio. Pana, a veteran with over 20 years in the industry, previously served as Managing Director at Ubisoft Bucharest. His experience includes working on renowned franchises like Tom Clancy’s The Division, The Crew, Far Cry, and Avatar.
Cristian Pana expressed his excitement, saying, “I’m thrilled to join Amazon Games at a time when the team is actively building across an exciting roadmap. I’ve built and led outstanding teams in the past and I know this area of Europe is a hot spot for some of the very best talent in gaming.”
The Bucharest studio supports Amazon Games’ mission to develop and publish community-focused games. Their expanding portfolio includes live-service games like New World and Lost Ark, upcoming projects such as Tomb Raider, The Lord of the Rings, and Throne and Liberty, and unannounced projects from studios in San Diego, Montreal, and the UK-based independent studio Glowmade.
