YouTube delivered massive advertising growth in 2025. New estimates from research firm Moffett Nathanson show the platform generated $40.4 billion in ad revenue, exceeding the $37.8 billion combined total from Disney, NBC, Paramount, and Warner Bros. Discovery.
Numbers highlight a major change in how audiences consume content and where advertisers spend marketing budgets.
Good to Know
The reversal represents a major shift compared with the previous year. In 2024, YouTube produced $36.1 billion in ad revenue while the four major studios collectively earned $41.8 billion.
Traditional entertainment companies dominated television and film for decades, but audience behavior has changed rapidly. Linear television viewership continues to decline while digital video platforms attract larger audiences and advertising budgets.
Alphabet reported YouTube total revenue climbed to $60 billion in 2025. A growing portion now comes from subscription products including YouTube TV, YouTube Premium, YouTube Music, and NFL Sunday Ticket.
That total places YouTube well ahead of Netflix, which reported $45.2 billion in annual revenue.
Hollywood companies also rely heavily on subscription services. Disney media operations generated $60.9 billion last year when streaming subscriptions and related revenue are included.
Even with strong growth, YouTube remains smaller than some digital advertising giants. Meta generated $196.2 billion in advertising revenue during 2025.
Advertisers continue increasing spending on YouTube as viewing habits shift toward digital platforms. YouTube advertising alone reached $11.4 billion during the fourth quarter of the year.
