Web2 Naval Battle Royale Maelstrom Making Waves on Uprising L2 Blockchain

Share

A big development has been published by the Uprising L2 Blockchain: Maelstrom, a well-known naval battle royale, will launch on this blockchain-powered network. This is a significant change for the game, which was released on the Web2 platform at first. Fortnight Entertainment will continue to play the role of traditional publisher, while Uprising will take on the role of Web3 publisher. Since taking over as the game’s publisher, Fortnight Entertainment has announced plans to adapt Maelstrom to Unreal Engine 5, add new content, and reduce the cost of the DLCs that are already available. These initiatives are a part of a larger plan to enter new industries and form alliances, which also includes a noteworthy foray into the Web3 domain.

According to Uprising’s Medium post, this partnership represents “a significant step forward in blending traditional and blockchain gaming experiences.” While details on how the Web3 version of Maelstrom will differ from the original are sparse, the collaboration hints at an exciting integration of blockchain technology with conventional gaming.

Maelstrom’s Background and Revival

Maelstrom originally launched as a paid game on Steam in March 2018 and transitioned to a free-to-play model in September 2019. Despite positive reviews, the game struggled with player retention, peaking at only 1,327 players. Its final update was in December 2020, and it has since been inactive. However, with Fortnight Entertainment’s recent partnership with Gunpowder Games, Maelstrom is set for a resurgence. The transition to Unreal Engine 5 aims to enhance the game’s performance and visuals, offering a “whole new level of immersion to the high seas.”

The game remains available for free on Steam, where players can engage in thrilling 3D naval battles with up to 16 participants. Gamers can choose to command Human, Dwarf, Orc, or Ghost warships and customize their vessels for various multiplayer modes. Additionally, Maelstrom features a single-player mode for practicing and upgrading ships.

A weekly esports competition has been established in association with Uprising, Fortnight Entertainment, and the Ultimate Endgamers League (UEL) to commemorate Maelstrom’s reopening. Players can sign up every day from 7 PM to 12 AM EST starting on August 27. Season 9 of the UEL, which has a $1 million prize pool and up to $2,500 each match, features Maelstrom. Competing against professional esports players for prizes like in-game gold, Uprising points, and special goods is possible for everyone attending the event.

Screenshots of these victories, along with Steam usernames, should be shared in the Discord server to claim rewards.
