Ubisoft Connects Games With Blockchain Using LayerZero

Share

Ubisoft has rolled out a new system designed to help players move digital gaming assets across blockchains with better security and less hassle. The new setup, built on LayerZero’s technology, creates a decentralized verification network (DVN) that can handle everything from NFTs to in-game currencies.

Good to know

  • The system connects over 130 blockchains through LayerZero
  • Ubisoft has worked with blockchain since 2021
  • DVN removes the need for a central party to confirm ownership

The DVN acts as a secure bridge for digital assets used in games. Whether it is a character skin or game tokens, players can now transfer items between platforms like Ethereum, Solana, and Polygon without losing proof of ownership. This helps cut out one of the biggest headaches in blockchain gaming—managing assets across multiple chains.

Unlike traditional systems where one authority confirms ownership, Ubisoft’s DVN does not rely on any single party. Instead, it uses a trustless method to verify who owns what. That means better protection for your items and fewer technical roadblocks when moving them around.

LayerZero, the protocol powering the new network, is already known for connecting over 130 blockchain ecosystems. Ubisoft is using its standards—OFT (for fungible tokens) and ONFT (for non-fungible tokens)—to improve how assets behave across different environments. The result is more flexibility and freedom for players who want to use their digital items across different games or platforms.

What this means for gaming and blockchain users

Ubisoft’s executive producer Didier Genevois said the DVN launch improves both security and scalability. He believes the partnership with LayerZero helps create a more open environment for developers and gamers alike.

LayerZero CEO Bryan Pelligrino added that Ubisoft’s move reflects a growing shift in gaming: making digital items usable across many different games and platforms. He called Ubisoft’s direction forward-thinking and in line with how gaming is evolving.

Ubisoft’s involvement also sends a clear signal about how blockchain is becoming more common in gaming. With annual bookings around €2.32 billion, the company’s use of decentralized tech may encourage other publishers to follow. At the same time, it boosts LayerZero’s reputation in the space. The protocol is already used by over 400 apps, including PayPal and Pudgy Penguins.
