On August 20, 2024, Mind Sports South Africa’s (MSSA) Protea Female Counter-Strike 2 Esports Team achieved a milestone that will be remembered for years to come. Facing off against Tunisia, the South African team competed to determine who would represent Africa at the IESF’s World Esports Championships (WEC24) in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, set for November 11-19, 2024.

South Africa’s Dominance Continues

The South African team entered the match with an impeccable record, having won every game in the championship with a 2-0 scoreline. The squad’s success can be attributed to their exceptional teamwork, as all members hail from the same club—ATK. This synergy proved crucial as they faced Tunisia.

The first game was played on the Dust 2 map, selected by Tunisia. Although the South African team struggled initially, playing somewhat recklessly, they quickly regained control. The Protea Team secured a solid 13-9 victory, with Christin Brazier earning the Most Valuable Player (MVP) title for her impressive performance.

In the second game, the Protea Team chose the Mirage map, where they truly found their rhythm. They dominated the Tunisians, finishing with a decisive 13-2 win. Team captain Jessica Eleez Greeff was named MVP for her outstanding leadership and gameplay.

With this victory, MSSA’s Protea Female Counter-Strike 2 Esports Team has not only qualified for IESF’s WEC24 but also claimed the title of African champions. Their triumph marks a significant achievement for South African esports and sets the stage for their participation in the global arena later this year.
