Leadership changes at OpenAI have drawn attention after a senior executive was dismissed following an internal complaint and reported disagreements over a planned ChatGPT feature.

A personnel dispute at OpenAI has surfaced publicly after the Wall Street Journal reported that former vice president of product policy Ryan Beiermeister was dismissed earlier this year.
According to the report, a male colleague accused Beiermeister of sex discrimination. She rejected the claim in comments to the Journal saying:
“The allegation that I discriminated against anyone is absolutely false.”
OpenAI did not immediately respond to requests for comment. An email address associated with Beiermeister also had not replied at the time of publication.
The reported termination followed internal discussions over a proposed ChatGPT feature described as “adult mode.” The feature would introduce erotica into the chatbot experience. Fidji Simo, who serves as chief executive of applications at OpenAI and oversees consumer products, told reporters the feature is expected to launch in the first quarter of the year.
The Journal reported that Beiermeister expressed criticism of the adult mode plan before her dismissal. Concerns raised internally reportedly focused on how such a feature could affect certain users.
OpenAI stated, according to the report, that Beiermeister “made valuable contributions during her time at OpenAI, and her departure was not related to any issue she raised while working at the company.” The company said she was fired after returning from a leave of absence.
Beiermeister background includes four years on the product team at Meta and more than seven years at Palantir, according to her LinkedIn profile.
