Nvidia Reports Record Quarter And Plans $80B Share Buyback

Nvidia reported another record quarter after market close on Wednesday, driven by huge data center demand and wider adoption of the Blackwell architecture.

Good to Know

  • Nvidia revenue reached $81.6B for the quarter ending April 26.
  • Data center revenue hit a record $75.2B.
  • The company approved $80B in share repurchases.

Data Center Growth Keeps Nvidia Ahead

Nvidia still gets most of its lift from AI infrastructure. The company brought in $81.6B in quarterly revenue, up 20% from the previous quarter, while data center revenue alone reached $75.2B.

CFO Colette Kress tied the result to Blackwell demand across the largest AI and cloud customers.

“Our Blackwell architecture is everywhere, adopted and deployed by every major hyperscaler, every cloud provider, and every major model maker,” said Nvidia CFO Colette Kress.

Nvidia also gave investors a softer growth outlook for the next quarter. It expects $91B in revenue, which would represent 12% growth. That still points to massive demand, though at a slower pace than the latest quarter.

China did not help the result in any major way. Kress said H200 exports have received US approval, but Nvidia has not generated revenue from them yet.

“We have yet to generate any revenue, and we are uncertain whether any imports will be allowed into [China],” Kress said.

A less expected part of the filing came from Nvidia holdings in private companies. Non-marketable equity securities rose from $22B at the start of the quarter to $43B by the end. Purchases during the quarter reached $18.5B, far above the $649M spent in the previous quarter.

That total does not include recent investments in public companies such as Corning and IREN. It also excludes future commitments that have not closed, including the planned $30B OpenAI investment announced in February.

CEO Jensen Huang also pointed to new AI capacity tied to Anthropic.

“The amount of capacity we’re going to bring online for Anthropic this year and next year is going to be quite significant,” Huang told investors on a call. “Our coverage for Anthropic had been largely zero until this.”
