Known for its brutal hack-and-slash action, Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance was quickly taken down from the DRM-free platform GOG after making a brief appearance. This game, which was co-produced by PlatinumGames after initially being developed by Kojima Productions, is proof of its gameplay, which redefines a genre.
Before PlatinumGames intervened to add its distinctive action flare, Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance faced developmental obstacles throughout its original production under Kojima Productions. It was widely praised for its extravagant gameplay features, which allowed players to practically cut through scenery and adversaries with a cybernetic sword, when it was released in 2013.
Publisher Konami has been actively reviving its Metal Gear franchise, starting with the re-release of classic games in the MGS: The Master Collection Volume 1. Following this initiative, anticipation is high for the upcoming MGS3 remake, MGS Delta: Snake Eater.
The recent appearance of Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance on GOG was a surprise for fans, especially in Japan where the game had previously only been available on PS3. Despite its short-lived availability, the game was quickly removed due to what Konami described as a “setting error on the GOG side.” Japanese players were particularly intrigued by this limited release, highlighting the game’s previous absence on platforms like Steam in their region.
In response to the incident, Konami issued a statement to Game*Spark, clarifying the situation: “There was a setting error on the GOG side, so the game was temporarily available for purchase in some Asian regions. We apologize for any confusion caused by this oversight.”
