The first-ever Esports World Cup Club Champion, Team Falcons, was crowned at the historic inaugural event held in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, on behalf of the non-profit organization behind the Esports World Cup, the Esports World Cup Foundation (EWCF). Sunday night’s star-studded Closing Ceremony brought this historic event to a close and signaled the end of what has been dubbed the most important weekend in esports history.
Team Falcons was awarded an impressive $7 million in prize money and the prestigious Esports World Cup Club Championship Trophy. HRH Mohammed bin Salman Al Saud, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister of Saudi Arabia, personally presented the trophy to Mossad “Msdossary” Al-Dossary, CEO of Team Falcons. Reflecting on the event’s impact, HRH Prince Faisal bin Bandar bin Sultan, Chairman of the Saudi Esports Federation, remarked, “The Esports World Cup has underscored the transformative impact of esports and the pivotal role that this incomparable industry now plays in cultures and societies all around the world.”
Over 500 million people watched the Esports World Cup over the course of eight weeks, consuming over 250 million hours of content. At its height, 3.5 million people watched the League of Legends Grand Final simultaneously as Lee “Faker” Sang-hyeok led Team 1 over Top Esports. Boulevard City in Riyadh became the hub of the world’s gaming culture as over 200 esports clubs battled in front of capacity audiences. The festival, which included concerts, pop culture events, tournaments, and immersive experiences, drew in nearly two million attendees.
With a total prize pool exceeding $60 million—the largest in esports history—the Esports World Cup distributed $20 million among the top 16 clubs in the Club Championship. Team Falcons, with competitors in 18 out of 22 game championships, finished with 5,665 points, securing titles in Call of Duty: Warzone and Free Fire, along with six additional top-three finishes. Other top-performing teams included Team Liquid, Team BDS, Team Vitality, and T1.
Ralf Reichert, CEO of the Esports World Cup Foundation, hailed the event as a monumental success: “The Esports World Cup has been an incredible success in year one, driving global esports to new heights. Congratulations to Team Falcons, who were rewarded for their competitive excellence and investment across many new games by becoming the first Esports World Cup Club Champion.”
The event’s success sets the stage for its return to Riyadh in July and August 2025, promising another groundbreaking celebration of esports, gaming, and global fandom.
