The Esports World Cup Foundation has announced a significant partnership with DAZN, a global OTT sports streaming application renowned for its coverage of boxing, soccer, and basketball. This collaboration marks a pivotal moment as DAZN ventures into the esports realm, aiming to elevate the most valuable esports event in history.

Expanding Esports Reach on DAZN

Previously a sporadic feature on DAZN, esports will now receive dedicated coverage and be broadcast free of charge to a broader audience. Leveraging DAZN’s extensive streaming infrastructure, this partnership aims to attract thousands of new viewers to the Esports World Cup.

Ralf Reichert, CEO of the Esports World Cup Foundation, highlighted the significance: “DAZN’s expertise in delivering sports moments globally will elevate the Esports World Cup. Get ready for an immersive viewing experience!”

From July 3 to August 25, Riyadh will host the Esports World Cup with a record $60 million prize pool. The event will feature top esports titles including,

  • Apex Legends
  • Dota 2
  • Modern Warfare 3
  • Fortnite
  • Warzone
  • Free Fire
  • Counter-Strike 2
  • Honor of Kings
  • League of Legends
  • ML:BB
  • PUBG
  • Street Fighter 6
  • Tekken 8
  • Rainbow Six Siege
  • PUBG Mobile
  • Overwatch 2
  • Rocket League
  • Rennsport
  • StarCraft II

However, concerns have surfaced regarding the event’s location in Saudi Arabia. Criticisms have been leveled at participating developers and publishers for potentially compromising ethical standards due to the host country’s policies on LGBTQ rights and treatment of journalists.

Nonetheless, DAZN’s commitment marks a significant milestone for esports. Historically underrepresented on mainstream platforms, esports often found itself relegated to the margins of sports programming. With DAZN’s vast subscriber base and the substantial investment implied by this partnership, the Esports World Cup is primed to occupy a prominent position on the platform this summer.
