The NJDGE, which oversees the gaming industry in New Jersey, has released positive data for March just like in February, showing the overall gaming income from all categories—including racetracks, casinos, and their affiliates—grew for a second consecutive month.

Gaming income had a considerable boost in March, totaling $526.6 million for the state—a remarkable 8.1% increase in revenue over the previous year. The year-to-date numbers for 2024 show that gaming income has increased to $1.55 billion, a 15.7% increase over the same period the previous year. This rising trajectory is further supported by these data.

Dominance of Casino Revenue

Casino revenue remains a cornerstone of New Jersey’s gaming landscape, with March figures indicating a robust performance. The total casino revenue reached $239.8 million, representing a solid growth of 4.9%. Notably, both slot machine and table game revenue contributed to this upward trend.

Despite overall growth in gaming revenue, sports wagering revenue experienced a slight dip of 3.6% in March, totaling $89.7 million. While this decline is marginal, it underscores the dynamic nature of the sports betting sector.

Among the licensees offering sports wagering services, only six out of thirteen demonstrated revenue growth. One standout performer is Harrah’s, which witnessed a staggering surge of 1156% in revenue, reaching $238,556.

With income from online gaming hitting $197.2 million in March, a huge rise of 19% over the same month last year, it became apparent that this revenue source was important. With revenues of $562.8 million so far this year, up 22% from the same time in 2023, year-to-date numbers emphasize this growing trend even more.

With $57.1 million in online gambling revenue, Golden Nugget became the clear leader. Tropicana, on the other hand, saw the fastest growth rate at 72.2%, reaching a total of $13.1 million.
